28 March, 2018. Samoa – Women take the lead in the Samoa Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s 2018/2019 Executive Council, with three of the top Officer positions now held by women members.
Jennifer Ula Fruean, Chief Financial Controller for Bank of South Pacific (BSP) takes the lead as Chamber’s second ever female President. Fruean is a long serving member of the Chamber Council, previously holding the position of Treasurer and was last year’s Vice President. General Manager for BAT, Seuleupe Michelle Macdonald who held the Treasurer position for the past 3 years returns as the Executive Secretary. Moving from the position of Past President, Chamber’s first ever female President, Tuiloma Sina Retzlaff, was elected as Executive Treasurer. Lauaki Jason Annandale, Partner at Schuster Betham Annandale is the Chamber’s new Vice President. Lauaki had served Chamber’s Council as Executive Secretary for the past 3 years.
Executive council elections were held during the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting, on Monday 26th at the Tanoa Tuistala Conference Centre. It was announced by CEO Lemauga Hobart Vaai that the entire voting process was supervised, monitored and conducted by Electoral Commissioner, Faimalomatumua Mathew Lemisio and the staff of OEC.
A vote for the 3 general Executives resulted in 2 new additions to Chamber’s Council. Renowned and established businessman Tuiaopo Andrew Ah Liki of Bluebird Lumber and Bluebird Construction joins the Chamber’s Executive for the first time together with Co-Director and Manager of Corporate Services for OSM Consultants, Shorley Mariner. General Manager of Ah Liki Investments, Asiata Alex Brunt returns as the 3rd general Executive Council member.
Elected representatives from industry Private Sector Organisations (PSOs) are Peseta Arasi Tiotio to represent the interests of Women in Business Development Incorporated, Tauiliili Alise Stunnenberg from the Tourism industry’s Samoa for Real (SFR), and Letaa Taunese Tulitufuga Purvis who brings the interests of the Big Island of Savaii representing Businesses of Salafai Association (BOSA).
Chamber has 3 reserved seats for its immediate Past Presidents which will now be held by outgoing President Tuala Pat Leota of Isitolo Leota Chartered Accountants, Namulauulu Sami Leota of Federal Pacific Insurance and Tupai Klaus Stunzner of Autosaver and Toe Gas.
The Chamber presented a comprehensive Annual Report to its members with 2017 highlights and milestones achieved, along with audited Financial Reports.
The Chamber is Samoa’s umbrella National Private Sector Organisation, and represents the sector’s various interests to promote the social and economic growth of the Samoan people. It elects its 12 Executive members each year, during its AGM every March.
