January 12, 2018. Samoa – A woman was stabbed multiple times by her estranged husband in a brutal attack, which took place between the the Gold Star building arcade and the National Bank of Samoa, in the center of Apia this morning.
According to eye witnesses, the man had confronted the woman, and was seen pulling a knife out of his pocket. He then stabbed her multiple times before he took off running, leaving the victim lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
The badly injured woman was rushed to the emergency room at the Motootua Hospital where she is currently receiving medical care.
According to unconfirmed reports, the attacker was found shortly afterwards, beside the river near Marist Brothers School.
Family members at the hospital told Samoa Planet that the attacker is in critical condition because he allegedly used the knife to self-harm, causing extensive injuries to his throat and chest.
A close relative of the victim told Samoa Planet that she is separated from the attacker due to his controlling and abusive behaviour. The relative said the man had previously threatened to kill the victim.
The victim had left her husband and formal divorce proceedings were pending. The woman had returned to live with her family at Vaimoso.
